Weida De Zhong Teapot | Purple Zhu Clay
The Dezhong teapot is one of the classic forms created by the renowned Qing Dynasty master potter Shao Daheng. Shao Daheng’s works are celebrated for their simple yet powerful aesthetic. He favored refined and restrained forms such as Duoqiu and Dezhong, embodying a sense of quiet dignity and solidity that highlights the rustic elegance of Yixing zisha art. The Dezhong form remains one of his most representative creations.
This teapot is crafted using the traditional Chaozhou hand-pulled teapot technique, formed entirely by hand on the wheel. The process emphasizes the hallmark quality of Chaozhou teapots—smooth, continuous lines shaped in a single flowing motion.
It is made from Purple Zhu Clay (Black King Kong), a material that fires to a deep, antique tone while retaining the delicate, warm touch characteristic of Chaozhou teapots. The clay body develops a high level of crystallization after firing, giving the surface a subtle texture and depth.
The piece preserves the dignified simplicity of Daheng’s Dezhong form, while also expressing the natural fluidity of Chaozhou hand-thrown craftsmanship. It is fired at a high temperature of 1140°C.
The Dezhong teapot features a stable, balanced silhouette and a wide lid opening, making it highly practical for everyday use—both adding tea leaves and pouring tea are especially convenient.
