煜堅潮州朱泥梨壺 Yujian Chaozhou Red Clay Li Teapot

The Yujian Chaozhou Zhu Ni Li Teapot, crafted by artisan Yujian, merges traditional craftsmanship with the timeless pear-shaped “Li” design. This classic form, named for its resemblance to a pear, dates back to the Yuan Dynasty and gained popularity during the Ming Dynasty. As noted in The Illustrated Catalogue of Ancient Chinese Ceramics, the pear-shaped teapot originated in the Yuan era and thrived throughout the Ming and Qing Dynasties due to its elegant and functional design. Geng Baochang’s Appraisal of Ming and Qing Porcelain similarly praised its enduring appeal and historical significance.

The Li teapot was first designed by Hui Mengchen, a famed Yixing teapot artisan, whose work is celebrated for blending simplicity and sophistication. As a traditional form, the Li teapot’s appeal lies not only in its graceful silhouette but also in the teapot’s texture, colour, and artistry, which elevate its aesthetic and functionality.

Yujian’s Li Teapot is made from Chaozhou’s red clay, renowned for its fine texture, breathability, and heat retention. These qualities enhance the tea’s aroma and flavour, making it ideal for Gongfu tea rituals. Elegant yet practical, this teapot is a tribute to centuries of artistry and Chaozhou’s rich tea culture.
