XingHua "Moss Veil" Gongdaobei
兴华《苔影》公道杯
This Gongdaobei reflects his ongoing exploration of the relationship between tea, material, and daily use. Formed with a quiet simplicity, the piece is designed not only for practicality, but also for the atmosphere it brings into the tea space.
Fired at high temperature in a reduction atmosphere, the surface develops subtle tonal variations and a softened depth that emerge naturally through the kiln process. The form remains understated and balanced, allowing texture, proportion, and gesture to quietly reveal themselves over time.
Created through years of tea practice and conversations with tea drinkers, the artist continually seeks harmony between functionality and presence. For him, utility is only the foundation of a good vessel; beyond this lies the pursuit of simplicity, character, and a beauty that unfolds gradually through everyday use.
Minimal yet warm, the Gongdaobei pours with steadiness and ease, embodying a calm and unhurried rhythm within the tea ceremony.
Firing: 1300°C high-temperature reduction firing
Material: Reclaimed mixed clay body (including porcelain and stoneware clay)
Technique: Wheel-thrown
