Weida Pear-Shaped Teapot | Purple Zhu Clay

£250.00

The pear-shaped teapot (Lishi) is an essential form in the world of tea. Since the Ming and Qing dynasties, the pear-shaped form has remained a timeless classic. Countless teapot makers throughout history have created their own interpretations of this iconic shape, and nearly every renowned master has produced a pear-shaped teapot.

Among experienced tea drinkers, there is a saying:
“Without a pear-shaped teapot in hand, how can one truly speak of tea?”
From the Ming and Qing dynasties to the present day, the pear-shaped teapot has remained a fundamental companion on the tea table.

This particular piece faithfully follows the traditional Chaozhou hand-pulled teapot technique, formed entirely by hand on the wheel.

The design draws inspiration from the classic pear-shaped teapots of both Yixing and Chaozhou, combining their characteristic aesthetics. The lines are smooth and flowing, and the teapot sits comfortably in the hand. The triple-curved spout allows water to pour smoothly and steadily. The body is slightly fuller in form, allowing leaves to expand more freely during brewing.

The teapot is made from Purple Zhu Clay, fired at 1140°C. After firing, the clay develops a warm, rich tone with excellent interaction with water, producing a bright and lively tea liquor. The surface is delicate and smooth to the touch, complementing the elegant and flowing lines of the pear-shaped form.
