Huangsheng Tulip Gaiwan

£120.00

This kaolin gaiwan is perfect for appreciating the subtle fragrance of your tea. The deep bowl, narrow and glassy, Yingqing surface help to reflect and amplify the aromas with clarity.

We recommend this gaiwan with green and bud teas. After every step of the brewing process, you can feel how the fragrance of the leaf changes, allowing for a more complete appreciation of your tea.

Due to the gradual cracking of the Yingqing glazing as it is used, a connection can form between the object and the user. Over time, developing a timeless beauty.

Artist quote:

“Ceramic making stems from a love of tea and ancient Chinese artefacts. The Chinese revere the ancient, and ceramic making is a tangible expression of this reverence for antiquity. As a maker living in modern society, I hope to express a personal sense of antiquity in my work, revering the past without being confined to it.

“For me, ceramic making is a process of continuous growth and division. As an everyday object, teaware will outlast us and endure, imbuing the crafting process with a sacredness. Tea is a spiritual beverage, so the utensils that carry it should also embody this spirituality.

“I don't create many styles of teaware; I primarily choose a few fixed shapes that I produce year-round.  Under the influence of time, the same instrument will produce different meanings in different stages of production, just like traditional "Chinese painting" and "Western symphony". The same picture or music will have different life expressions under the pens of different people and the interpretation of different conductors.”

*These pieces are consistently around 100ml in usable volume and coloured as photographed
